Community Land Trusts Building Common Ground Across Europe – webbinarium

4 december, 2020 @ 14:00 - 18:00

This conference is an opportunity to take stock of the emergence of a European Community Land Trust movement, and its relevance to the EU policy agenda. Community Land Trusts are non-profit and democratic organisations. They develop and manage homes affordable to low- and medium-income households, as well as other assets contributing to thriving local communities. They act as long-term stewards of these assets, ensuring they remain permanently affordable. This is achieved through mechanisms – such as the dissociation between the land and the building ownership, or the implementation of a resale formula – enabling that any additional value generated is retained within the CLT.

This conference is organised by the  Sustainable Housing for Inclusive and Cohesive Cities (SHICC) Interreg North-west Europe project, bringing together the four pioneering urban Community Land Trusts (CLTs) in Europe (Brussels, London, Lille, and Ghent), the National CLT Network of England and Wales, and the Global Fund for Cities’ Development (FMDV). It aims at proving the case for urban CLTs and spreading the CLT model across the NWE region. The initial partners were joined in 2020 by four pioneering CLT initiatives in Berlin (id22), Amsterdam (And The People), Scotland (Dumfries and Galloway Small Communities Housing Trust), and Ireland (Self-organised Architecture). The project is the recipient of a 2020 RegioStars Award.
